A CHARITY which helps young people in York fulfil their potential has been given nearly £5,000 by the Santander Foundation. Activ8 Learning has received £4,750 to fund cycle maintenance workshops for disadvantaged 16-19 year-olds in York, to help them learn new skills and improve their employability. Michaela Shaw, centre manager at Activ8 Learning said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the younger generation in York to engage in a programme that will teach them a practical skill. The workshops could help them develop a career and progress onto an apprenticeship or even gain skills on how to set up their own business and show them what is involved.” Activ8 Learning helps people improve their employment and promotion prospects, and it helps unemployed people build the skills their need for work. The grant will let them run cycle maintenance workshops for teenagers, in a bid to give them useful skills and confidence. Beverley Learmonth, Branch Manager at Santander’s York branch said: “The Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes throughout the UK. “Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and are delighted to be supporting Activ8 Learning.”
