A practical qualification for those who develop learning programmes which is assessed through observation, inspection of work products, oral questions and discussions, learner statement, written questions, witness testimony. These qualifications help to improve standards of practice for those working in training and development, they include a range of 'mini qualifications' to boost special skills and knowledge. These qualifications are for people working in, or looking to enter roles in learning and development. They have been developed to replace the Learning and Development NVQs. The units and qualifications will provide people who carry out learning and development roles in their organisation with the opportunity to develop and improve their practice as well as achieving a professional qualification for the role. They are available to anyone working in accredited learning, non-accredited learning (where people may train and assess skills but do not assess for a qualification), the Qualification on the National Qualification Framework (NQF) and the Qualifications on the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF). Learners can also go on to take one of City & Guilds' suite of Assessment and Internal Quality Assurance qualifications These qualifications allow learners to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression as a trainer/tutor/coach or mentor in many sectors. You will learn on the job in a work environment or in workshops, assessment methods include assignment, professional discussion, observation, work products and Q&A. You are working in training and development and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. Level 4 is ideal if you are working at a senior or managerial level in learning and development and have a great deal of professional experience.

Level 4 City & Guilds Diploma in Learning & Development (6318-05): As below Diploma in Learning & Development: 45 Credits (60027733) or Diploma in Learning & Development (Management Endorsement): 45 Credits (60027733) City & Guilds Managing Learning (6318-09): 24 Credits (60069818) These qualifications are for those who deliver learning to either individuals or groups to implement the learning cycle – this is a recognised training qualification that was developed by LLUK (now LSIS). Assessed through observation, inspection of work products, learner statements, oral questions and discussions, witness testimony.

You are working in training and development and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of ensuring work meets the required standard. These qualifications can help you to progress in a wide range of learning and development roles, including:

  • Learning and development manager
  • Learning and development consultant.
There are three pathways available at Level 3:
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Learning and Development. This is a single-unit award.
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Facilitating Learning and Development. This comprises one mandatory and one optional unit.
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Learning and Development. This comprises three mandatory units and a range of optional units.
